"Poetry deep from the heart of Doreen Roberts"
Augustus
toad crawled down the road wearing his Sunday best,
Green
plastic trainers like giant containers, and his grandfather's old string vest.
He
wore a peak cap as a fly trap; toad's are quite partial to flies,
He
looked very silly, the vest was too frilly, his trainers were quite the wrong
size.
He
tripped poor soul; he fell down a hole, deeper and deeper he fell,
There
was a loud crash, then a big splash; he had fallen down a deep well.
"Hello"
said a spider; toad's mouth opened wider his eyes rolled round with a smile,
"I
fancy a munch, I'll eat you for lunch," so he ate the spider with style.
Along
came another, the first spiders brother, toad ate this one for sweet.
He
instantly died with the brothers inside; both spiders had eight sweaty feet.
When
you peer down a well you never can tell what happened deep down below,
If
you see a string vest not looking its best, it's the well where toad died long
ago.
Wherever
Buster wandered he had a burger in his hand,
He
would fill himself the whole day through, his mother could not understand;
Why
could he not eat vegetables, lovely greens and carrots?
Oh
no I can't eat them he said, they are for animals and parrots.
Give
me a giant burger anytime of day,
I
don't want your veggies throw them all away.
He
ate burgers for his breakfast his dinner and his tea,
Buster
kept on eating them, till his feet he could not see.
His
tummy got so big and round he rolled just like a ball,
If
he got much fatter he'd be as wide as he was tall.
His
mother got the doctor before Buster's stomach burst,
He
said I'll put you on a diet; we'll try bread and water first.
Buster
wanted burgers on a diet I will die,
I
don't want bread and water, he ran away to cry.
As
he ran he tripped and fell he rolled along the street,
He
was like a giant football with little hands and feet.
Alas
he hit a lamp post his stomach went bang splat!
Out
flew all the burgers, Busters stomach went quite flat.
They
rushed him to the hospital he was looking quite a mess,
They
stitched his stomach up so small; Buster has to eat much less.
He
cannot eat his burgers his tummy is too tight,
His
mother buys him baby food it's mashed vegetables tonight.
So
when you eat a burger, think of Buster please,
Eat
some veggies with it like carrots, greens and peas.
